(EMPORIA, KS) Tuesday, April 23, 2019 --- On April 18th, 2019, Kansas Debates’ Jaylen Cavil’s article suggested that Brandon Boyce and the campaign is not a representative of the Free State Party.

This reporting is nothing new to voters. However, Jaylen’s reporting is inaccurate. “Boyce’s attachments to the Sunflower Party run deep. In fact, Boyce was a member of the Sunflower Party until his first run for state senate.” Brandon was indeed a member of the Sunflower Party until his first run for the 60th District of the Kansas House of Representatives.

Before running for office, Brandon was involved with the Sunflower Party as President of the KU Young Sunflowers. Brandon’s first job in politics was campaigning for current Governor Bradley Smith when Bradley Smith was running for State Senate.

It wasn’t until after graduating the University of Kansas that Brandon became an Independent when Brandon successfully ran for House District 60. Brandon organized a winning campaign on his own against a long time Free State Party Elected official and narrowly won the primary and was unopposed in the general election. In his tenure as an Independent for the Representative for House District 60, Brandon caucused with the Free State Party and quickly became a leader in the party. In his district, Brandon was a voice for his constituents, hosting countless town halls and meeting regularly with his constituents and passing countless legislation.

After serving a few terms as a Representative, the Free State Party of Kansas asked Brandon to run for State Senate. Brandon ran and won and again, Brandon quickly rose to having leadership positions and before resigning at the end of the Legislative Session, Brandon was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs.

Brandon has been a champion for his constituents during his time as an elected official. Not only has Brandon been on board with the Free State Party but he has championed countless bipartisan bills that benefit all of Kansas.

Jaylen’s reporting on his voting record is public information and is true. “Boyce voted with the Sunflower Party 72 percent of the time. When he was in the Kansas Senate, Boyce voted with the Sunflower Party 57 percent of the time.”

In Brandon’s community and in other rural communities, rural hospitals have been shutting down across the state. The Sunflower Party was proactive in increasing funding for these hospitals so that more would not shut down. Brandon sponsored those bills and allowed them to come out of committee for a vote, which both the Sunflower Party and Free State Party endorsed. Brandon’s education votes are similar. As Vice-Chair of the House Education Committee, Brandon sponsored numerous Free-State Party bills that came out of committee.

Jaylen’s article, “Boyce: The Voice for the Sunflower Party” is wrong. Brandon votes in a bipartisan manner. Brandon votes for constituents over party. As Governor, Brandon will ensure that the needs of all Kansans are addressed.

Even though as an Independent, The Brandon Boyce Campaign has hired two Senior Staffers from the Free State Party. Brandon hired Maddy Shankman as the Campaign Manager. Maddy is a long-time Free State Party Operative and has consulted countless Free State Party candidates across the state of Kansas which has resulted in the Free State Party controlling both chambers of the Kansas State Legislature. The Brandon Boyce Campaign also hired Garrett Miller as the Communications Director. Garrett is a former Senior Staffer to the Free State Party National Governors Association. Mr. Miller has been a lifelong Free State Party member and has been active in numerous state and federal races for Free State Party candidates.
